Divya Jyoti Mahila Vikash (DJMV) is a non-profit community-based organisation working towards women empowerment, education and livelihood promotion. DJMV aspires to improve the living conditions of the poor and marginalized by adopting strategies through community initiative, participation and sensitization. Promoted in 2000, the organization has worked among backward fishing communities in the interior unreached pockets of Rural Odisha, identified as one of the most under developed states in India. Women self help groups have been taken as the base for all interventions and livelihood activities enabling them to contribute towards mainstream development process.

Girls Education
The locals giving very low priority to girl child education, female children as four-year-old can be seen engaged in domestic chores and other production activities to earn daily wages.
Adolescent’s Empowerment
Majority of these men and women land up in the cities and join the unorganized sector ending up as construction workers, housemaids etc
Menstrual Hygiene Management
Menstrual blood is considered impure and unclean among the fishing community in Odisha and there is little awareness about this biological process taking place in a women’s body
Women Empowerment
Women Self Help Groups plays vital role in women empowerment process. DJMV also works towards addressing issues of violence against women providing legal support to victims.

Livelihood is one of the key problems in our operational area where majority of the people are engagead in agriculture for their daily livelihood

- 4 in 100 children die before celebrating 1st birthday due to malnutrition and due to lack of access to quality health services.
- 1 in 4 women are married “before they are 18years or when they are still a child”.
